-Joseph H. Pilates

What is Pilates?

The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning was developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920’s.  Joseph immigrated to America post World War One. The Method focuses on three components:

  • Whole Body Health
  • Whole Body Commitment
  • Breath

The components are addressed by following the eight principles of:

  • Breath
  • Balance
  • Control
  • Centering
  • Alignment
  • Flow
  • Concentration
  • Integration.

Who is Pilates good for?

“We retire too early and die too young.  Our prime of life should be in the 70’s and old age should not come until we are almost 100.”

-Joseph H. Pilates

Everyone and anyone no matter age or abilities.  Students come to Pilates to increase core strength and body awareness.  This in turn develops and enhances stamina, posture alignment, and core power.  Elite athletes and active adults use pilates as a fitness regime as well as a supplement to golf, tennis, horseback riding and cycling. Men often find their way to a Pilates Class in search of Stretching and Strengthening.  The posture and alignment work attracts women of all ages interested in maintaining a balanced body workout.

The workouts can be done daily.

At Red Monkey we want you to be successful.  We offer a complimentary orientation of our studio and  the work we teach. This hour is a consultation and light workout. You can discuss your goals and needs as well as experience the machines.  This will give you the opportunity to see if you feel the benefits of Pilates and to learn what your options might be while working out at Red Monkey.

How do I know who is the best Teacher for me?  Which Teacher has the most experience?

During your Orientation we will discuss your goals, time restraints, and the best way to get you started on your Pilates journey.  All of our Teachers are highly qualified in their field of expertise. Each has a slightly different teaching style. We only hire the best Teachers who are interested in empowering students with knowledge that helps them in all aspects of their lives.
